Getting Ready For University?!

Thursday, 29 August 2019 Arnhem, Nederland

Hi!

It's finally time to say that the school season has started! In the Netherlands, we always make sure to start the year with a party! A few friends of mine and myself included are starting their first year after high school. Time to get to know new fellow students and teachers. This weekend I will have an introduction camp and I am looking forward to it! But next week we will have to get back to our school desks after (for me) a very long summer vacation. :)

As I will be a freshman this year I don't have any experience with university yet. This year I will hopefully learn what I need to survive seminars and lectures! But I did buy a few things to get this year started and today I will share them with you.

Books.
First things first, books. Yes, I bought all my books, let me explain please :). So a lot of students say: "Don't buy all your books in advance, you will not need them/use them." But uhm okay.., I'm going to be a literature student. :) Books will be my life for the next couple of years and I'm not complaining! So yes, I bought all the books I will need this year and I like it to have them on my bookshelf. I also asked a few people who already got through their first year about buying books and they too recommended it. Plus because I bought them early I got a nice discount! I also think it's nice to read of paper and to hold something in my hands. But that's just personal taste. I would recommend you to wait with buying them until you need them. Maybe you can even find them online and save some money!

Bag.
For the last few years, I really liked the Fjallraven Kanken backpacks. I just couldn't afford them and didn't need them. But this year I decided I would spoil myself a little by buying one. I got the Fjallraven Kanken 15'' Laptop bag in the colour Deep Forest. The colour is very pretty, it's deep green almost grey' ish and I love it! It has a small pocket on the front, a large pocket in the middle and a back pocket designed for a laptop of the maximum size of 15 inches. It has a lot of space, so I can take a lot with me on a long day at uni.

Laptop/pc.
I don't have bought it yet, but a laptop really is a necessity for me. I'm still saving up to buy one that will be next month. I'm very interested in a 2-in-1 laptop, one that folds into a tablet. This way I can take notes while writing onto my laptop them instead of using paper. Also, because I will have to read a lot (not only from books), I can use tablet mode to read, I like that much better. The one I think I will get is the Lenovo Yoga 530 in EU (or Flex 14 in US): link here. I'm not sure, but I still have time to make a choice. I will use my laptop when I'm travelling to Utrecht when I'm in lectures and seminars, or when I'm not at home. But if I'm home, I will do most of my writing and studying on my computer. I find typing on a keyboard a lot nicer instead of typing on a small laptop.

Planner.
What every student needs is a planner, online or on paper, you just need to be organised! I bought a very cute one from the website Archer&Olive, but it's shipping from the United States and that takes a while. The reason I bought this planner is because it's undated, no preset dates, you can start whenever you like. But also this paper is very thick, no bleeding through or ghosting at all! Oh, I'm soo excited! But even though I ordered it on the 13th of August it's still not here. I am patient though and it will be 100% worth it! Besides a physical planner I also use my Google Planner on my phone. I can share this with my boyfriend so we can see each others shifts at work and other plans. Very nice and easy to use!

This will be today's post, I hope you enjoyed! I am truly excited to start this year, but also a little scared because of the workload I will have to get used to. But that's a problem for another day.. :)

Love,

Julia
