A Day In The Life Of A University Student
Sunday, 20 October 2019 Arnhem, Nederland
Hey guys!
In today's post, I will show you some pictures from my life as a university student. So far, I have told you already some things about my studies. If you've missed them, here are the links: University Update; My First Week As A University Student. My first period has now ended, so in this post, I will look back onto these weeks. So here's a sneak peek into my current life!
The trains... I could write at least 10 different posts about the trains in the Netherlands. I can assure you, I'm not a fan :(. I have to be in Utrecht 5 days a week, that means up to 10 hours of travelling to Utrecht each week. I don't know why I thought that it wouldn't be so bad, but it is. Every Monday morning there's delay. One time, the trains weren't driving because of a faulty train that was on the track... Another time, they hit a tree?? Yeah, I don't know how either. But when they're driving, I don't have any trouble with travelling by train. Definitely during the off-peak hours, when the trains are almost empty.
When (or if ;P) I arrive in Utrecht, I almost always walk to the location I have to be that day. The University of Utrecht doesn't have one campus or one main building but is scattered across the city. So depending on what course I have that day, decides where I have to be. From the Central Station, it's a 10-15 minute walk and I enjoy it. During these autumn days, I enjoy the colours of the trees. And it just is nice to get some fresh air, because I spend a lot of my time inside. In my second period, I do have some courses on a location further away, so I do have to take the bus to get there, sadly.
Depending on what day it is, I mostly only have one lecture or seminar that day. So mostly, I go to Utrecht, attend the lecture/seminar, and go home. But every Monday I have two classes to attend, giving me some hours in between those to do something for school. In these hours I usually go somewhere to grab a bite or a cup of coffee, and after that, I will do something for uni. Mostly studying, or writing.
When I go home, there's still work to do. I spend a lot of my time working on my laptop to write essays or paragraphs. I also study a lot for tests as they were spread out over the period instead of one big exam. And I read much, but the next period even more (I already checked the syllabus, I have to read A LOT). But I still make sure I take some time for myself. I just finished watching Stranger Things on Netflix and I started Peaky Blinders. I know, I'm late to the party. But I enjoy these moments. I definitely enjoy weekends more, now I'm so busy during the week.
But now, finally a break. For me, a 3-week long break! OMG. I do have to hand in an essay this Monday, and a small paragraph this Wednesday. But I don't have to be in Utrecht for the next three weeks. Oh, I'm going to enjoy my time off. I don't even know what to do with it! I hope you enjoyed this post, I will see you soon!
Love,
Julia
