Reading Update - November
Monday, 25 November 2019 Arnhem, Nederland
Hi everyone,
In September I posted my 'Current reads' since then I have read a lot of books, some of which I will share with you today. Lately, I really enjoy reading as it is a way for me to relax after a long day of school. In total, I've read 8 books these past two months. For me, that is already more than I've read in 2018. So a big improvement is made, and I am still reading regularly.
ACOTAR Series by Sarah J. Maas
This series holds a special place in my heart. I am a big fan of fantasy novels/fantasy Young Adult/New Adult novels. I enjoyed these books so much and I am still kind of sad that I finished them. I will have to say that I read the first book, A Court of Thornes and Roses (ACOTAR), of this series over a year ago. I really enjoyed it then, but I knew that from the second book, A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF), the characters were about to change and I did not want that to happen. So I never went on with the second book, although I had already bought it. But a little over a month ago I got over myself and I read it. And OMG, it was so good. It was so much better than the first novel and I regret not reading it sooner. So after the second, I read the third, A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR), and this book was also soooo f*cking good! The fourth novel, A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOFAS), was a little unnecessary in my opinion, but I still enjoyed the characters and their stories. It gave the main character a good ending. The fifth book (no title yet..) will come out next year I think, but another character will take the place as the main character. I am sure I will read it, although I liked Feyre, this main character a lot, and I will miss her. If you are into fantasy (and you can handle romantic scenes :P) I definitely recommend this series to you. I am still a little sad because of the fact I cannot read it for 'the first time' again. As the first time reading a good book/series is so satisfying. This was my little positive 'rant' about the ACOTAR series. Please read it, you will have the best time of your life.
The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
This book came out on the 19th of Oktober, and I am honest when I say that I've bought this because of the cover. IT'S SO PRETTY. But the novel itself: I enjoyed it, I did not like the ending. The was the first novel I have ever read with a gay main character (I did not know this when I bought it), and I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the beginning of this novel, it had a good backstory, and I liked the characters and the setting. I had heard for others that it was a novel about vampires, but this was not obvious at the beginning of the novel. Halfway through, it became clear what the novel was about and I enjoyed it a lot. But the ending felt rushed and unfinished. It left me with questions although it was a closed ending. For me, I felt that the characters and the story did not deserve this ending, as it was set up in a good way. This novel was meant to be a sort of retelling of the wives of Dracula, but I do not look at it that way as the novel did not really that much with it. I will not spoil the novel, because I still recommend the novel as it was a fun read.
I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella
My friend gave me this book for my birthday and it was something I do not read often. It was a fun read, but the main character really frustrated me at times. She was very awkward and naive, in a way I did not always enjoy. I actually skipped a few pages as I just could not handle her sometimes. Maybe this sounds a little overexaggerating, but she way too naive was okay. I did like the set up of the novel, and I enjoyed the ending. I like endings like these, it makes me feel good. This was a fun read for me, but I am not sure if I would read another novel of Sophie Kinsella as I am just too afraid the frustration will return. We will see tho ;P.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This classic novel has been on my to-read list for quite some time. A few days ago, Amazon had some sweet sales on English books, which led to me buying this book (and more). I just started reading it and I am enjoying it so far. It is a break from my fantasy novels and it is a fun read about a 15-year-old boy figuring out life, as we all once did/still do. For now, I have not so much to say about it so far as I have not read that much. But I wanted to share my current read with you guys.
I hope you liked this post, I had much fun writing it. I did miss writing in the last weeks, I hope I can keep it up. This blog is just a hobby for me, right now, doing university work is my priority. Let me know if you found this post inspiring to read as well, or if you've read any of these books! See you soon <3
Love,
Julia
