How I Get in the Mood For Christmas

Monday, 23 December 2019 Arnhem, Nederland

Okay guys,

I'm going to be real with you... Christmas eve is literally tomorrow, and I not ready yet. Yeah, you read that right, Christmas eve is TOMORROW... Currently, I'm in my first week of the Christmas holidays. And after a busy week, I really need to rest. But of course, university blessed me with a lot of deadlines and exams to study for during this break. So I also have to find time to prepare for uni again. But like I said Christmas is here tomorrow, and I just do not want to miss out on this holiday mood. Even tho there's a lot on my to-do-list, I would like to just enjoy Christmas and these days off. But in the Netherlands, the weather isn't helping. It is very warm for this time of year and that just doesn't give me the holiday vibes. But in today's post, I am going to share the things I do to do get me in the Christmas spirit.

Watching Christmas films
I must admit that I'm not that big of a fan when it comes to Christmas films. I just cringe so much because I can't handle the awkward love scenes. But I still enjoy watching them around this time of year. Besides these cringy Christmas films, I also enjoy watching Harry Potter. Those Christmas scenes also really put me in the Christmas mood. I have finished the first two films and I am planning to watch the rest of them during this holiday break.

Listening Christmas music
Something I think we all do to get into the Christmas spirit. Some fun Christmas tunes can really lift the mood. I'm not the kind of person that starts listening to Christmas music in July (but I know people that do :P). I start listening around December 1st and I do this to get me in the spirit.
Last week I went to a Christmas gala with some of my friends from university. Dancing to some Christmas songs was very fun, definitely after a few beers. Dressing up and partying with friends also raised the holiday vibes for me.

Buying (and decorating) a tree
This year I was very excited to buy a tree. In Utrecht, there's this big square where Christmas trees are sold. This got me really excited to buy a tree for myself. Just seeing all those trees standing there really gave me Christmas vibes. And to have a decorated tree in the house creates a cosy ambience and just lifts the mood. I really love the way my mom decorates the tree, it really represents what I think of when thinking about a Christmas tree. Bram and I also bought a tree together for his own apartment and decorated it. It was fun to do this together and it makes the place more cosy.

Buying Christmas presents
My family and I have pulled straws a month ago to decide from whom we all would buy a present and write a poem. We decided a budget and shared ideas for presents. I am really looking forward to tomorrow night because then we will reveal for whom we have bought a present. Personally, I think that I've bought a very fun present for .. (I'm not sharing who :)). I really like giving presents, especially when I think it will be a surprise for them. Buying and giving presents is such a fun thing to do.

I hope you all have nice Christmas days, and if you don't celebrate it, that you enjoy these days off. Although I am busy preparing for university after the break, I will keep posting regularly for you guys. Merry Christmas!

Love,

Julia
