Study With Me - Exam Prep

Thursday, 5 December 2019 Arnhem, Nederland

Hi guys,

So instead of ACTUALLY studying for my exam this week, I decided to write a blogpost about studying. Hopefully, this will motivate you (and myself) to stop procrastinating and actually do sh*t. Lately, I've had a few downs, and because of the fact that I felt bad, I had some useless days. Aka laying in bed watching Netflix or YouTube for 6 hours straight. Yes, that sometimes is my life, but I also learned how I can motivate myself to actually do something. In today's post, I will share some tips.

Go somewhere else
This tip helped me a lot while writing my essay. I just couldn't focus so I decided to get out of the house and go to the library. This helped me so much. I actually wrote stuff, and I was also happy with it. So as a tip for you, go somewhere you can focus. This can be at your school, to the library, maybe a café (so you can also enjoy some delicious coffee). Just find a space where you can focus (and get things done!).

Don't touch that phone!
Yes, also for me, my phone can be a great distraction. When I want to focus on my work I put my phone on silent and lay it somewhere out of reach. If I can't see it from where I'm working/studying, it can't distract me. Maybe even put it downstairs or in your living room. But just don't touch that phone!

Find someone to study with
Although friends can be a great distraction, they also can be a great motivation. Find someone to do your work with. You can study together or do work separately but still, motivate each other. When studying with my friend, we sometimes explain topics to the other, by doing this you remember things even better. So find your study buddy and get things done!

Give yourself breaks, but don't quit!
When you're studying for a big exam it is important to take breaks. After a while, your brain will not absorb all that information any more and you're just wasting time. The tricky part is that after your break, you start again. This is tricky because on your phone (or while watching Netflix) time flies by very fast. And before you know it, half your afternoon is gone. Be strict to yourself to avoid this. Limit yourself to 15 minutes, or maybe one episode of Friends. But after, you will have to get back to studying again. You can do this!

Get organized
Before you start, make a plan. What will you do in these hours? Is it one course that you will target, or maybe multiple? Give yourself some time you plan out your study time. But keep it doable, also plan out some backup time. When you were wrong about how much time you would need for a task, this time can be used as a backup. Also, plan your breaks. By making a plan it is easier to keep yourself accountable to follow it. It also makes you look at the things you need to do and gives you an idea of much time you will need.

I hope I have motivated you to drop your phone and start doing the things that need to be done. Please, be real to yourself and also give yourself time to rest. Good luck! I will see you guys soon!

Love,

Julia
